Music composed by Sven-Åke Johansson-Halldin GEMA
Recorded in Västerås (Sweden) 2000

Free Jazz at Millenium's end: a historical idiom, sure enough. Subjekt of musicological analysis and historical research, of post-revolutionary nostalgia. of discographical reissues, even of revivalism.... But why leave retrospection to others? Sven-Åke Johansson has decided to takes a look back at the Sixties himself, to re-investingate the time when free jazz was still very much jazz...."Early free jazz on period instruments"? In a way, yes. Of course, Sven-Åke Johansson plays his Slingerland drum set.

SÅJ-Records / Sven-Åke Johansson Berlin, Germany

Sven-Åke Johansson, born in 1943 in Mariestad (Sweden), is one of the style-defining drummers of the German free jazz era of the 60s and 70s. From the 80s onwards, he pursued an artistic path largely independent of institutions and groups as a music performer in the circles of fine arts and new music.
